The Kings Arms

The Kings Arms

Which one ? I hear you quietly whisper to yourself.

The one that is nestled between Bethnal Green Road and a small church park, once a public mass graveyard for the locals. The one that has dark painted wood panels, and framed dried butterflies as the essential type of decoration. One that has those funny, nipple-like old school glass panes.

Just the other day, it was a Wednesday but felt like a Thursday, I overheard someone exclaim ‘this place is a vibe’. It is, and it is not. It became my local bar over the course of two short blissful years in E2, and perhaps the nice vibes are what makes it a great spot, but here you’ll find none of this vibeness prone to attract only curious city wanderers glued to their phones (don’t get me wrong, I am one of them every time I branch out to a new vibey bakery just to see what it’s all about).

What gets me going, and going back, is just that: a bi-weekly changing beer menu, something for every taste (preferably with deep pockets), cute intimate tables inside, humble sharing benches outside, and just no intention whatsoever.

Sometimes I wave at a guy who I know also lives close by, sometimes I go there alone. And I always feel welcome, especially when Wednesday feels like a Thursday.
