Yun Cross Bridge Rice Noodles’ Chicken noodle soup

Yun Cross Bridge Rice Noodles’ Chicken noodle soup
A perfect bowl to heal anything.

I got ill the other week, and what’s worse, from the stomach. Having embarked on a three-day journey that felt like an eternity of eating plain foods, I numbly sought something that would fit the bill yet bring any sort of savoury satisfaction to my hypochondriac sorry self. That’s when the lunch deal at Yun Cross Bridge Rice Noodle crossed my mind (I had to). This place already being a personal favourite for the little pot rice noodles, I walked there in full confidence, knowing I’d find the soothing I was after. It did not disappoint, then again, could a chicken soup in any form or variety ever? More than a heart-warming dish, this soup is an ideal, the essence of comfort thanks to a perfect layering of clear stock, shredded chicken bits, crunchy thin vegs, glossy smooth noodles, and a delicate oily surface. Served by the ever friendly staff, I had to retain a discrete tear from pouring over my solitary meal, because I always get moody and tearful when I’m mildly sick, yes, but also because this delicacy took my back to the memory of the Hainan chicken rice of my short Singaporean childhood, its boiled chicken, not so plain and simple.

Must try: yellow pea fried cakes, crispy pork belly, the eponymous Cross-bridge noodles.
